Before we delve into an autumnal wonderland, we want to announce our big news this month! We have launched of our new Products Page on our website, including (at long last) a full Price List. If you scroll to the bottom of the Products Page, you can download a very useful spreadsheet. We are very proud and excited to announce that you can browse all our prices from the comfort of your own home, hopefully making it easier for you to budget and make shopping lists. Now, for Autumn...
Autumn has set in and we are enjoying the weather from the shop window. One moment we are flooded with crisp, bright sunshine and we look on in awe as the shop basks in light. The next moment people are being blown down the hill with hoods pulled low over their eyes and they are holding onto their hats as the autumn leaves gust around them. We feel quite smug, warm inside, peering out from our pumpkin-lined window display. The shop has a nice autumnal feel inside too, because the veg rack is bursting with multi-coloured squash, carrots & parsnips, and we have been ordering some seasonal dried goods.
We have mixed peel as well as extra sultanas, raisins & mixed fruit, because now is the perfect time to prepare Christmas Cakes, Christmas Puddings & Mincemeat. We ourselves enjoyed a pleasant evening at home this week, mixing up our mince pie filling, which made our kitchen smell of brandy & mixed spice. Here at un_rap, we stock sugar, spices, flour, dried fruit, peel, and flaked almonds. If you wanted to get prepping too...
If you are getting involved with carving pumpkins this Halloween, please be mindful of your waste. We love a bit of pumpkin art as much as the next person, but we also love cooking and zero waste. There are so many fantastic recipes for using pumpkin flesh. We have been doing our research this year. Did you know you can make pumpkin hummus, pumpkin bread, pumpkin fritters, pumpkin cake, pumpkin waffles, and of course the classics like pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup? You can even bake the pumpkin seeds and seasons with whatever you fancy. A simple search of any of these online and recipes will appear.
We are also enjoying more cups of our loose leaf Chai tea. With strong aromatic flavours of Assam, cinnamon, ginger, orange & cardamom, this tea is great tucked up under a blanket any time of the day in Autumn. Or in our case, sipping with oat milk between customers.
If you need some entertainment with your cuppa, you could listen to our latest podcast appearance. We were invited to talk on a podcast called 'Our Effect'. We chatted to sustainability guru Jake Causeway, who works at the university and aired the podcast on the student radio for Falmouth & Exeter universities. It is an interesting listen for everyone, not just students. If you would like to know more about the backstory of un_rap and the founder of the shop, Hannah, give it a listen:
This month we have also welcomed several new products to our range:
New Products: Rapeseed Oil - from Cotswold Gold, now sold in bulk, so bring an empty bottle. This oil is supplied to us from our cleaning product company SESI, who deliver in 20L containers that we send back to be refilled, meaning no waste up the supply chain. At just 40p for 100ml, this is a very affordable and versatile option. This new oil sits nicely with our Sunflower Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, both of which are organic too.
Olive Oil - from Honest Toil, a non-organic extra virgin olive oil. Also supplied to us in bulk from SESI, so no waste up the supply chain. This olive oil is cheaper than our organic option, at just £1.10 for 100ml. Rest assured that the company follows very sustainable practices. We just want to make olive oil refills more widely available to all budgets.
Paper Tape - back in stock for Christmas 2020 is our fully recyclable & compostable paper tape. Brown in colour. Useful for packing boxes & parcels, as well as gifts. We will also be stocking twine and recycled wrapping paper this Christmas.
You can see a whole list of our products on our Product Page and there is a pricelist to download at the bottom of the page.

Another new David Attenborough documentary called 'A Life On Our Planet' became available on Netflix this month and we highly recommend watching : *
"One man has seen more of the natural world than any other. This unique feature documentary is his witness statement. In his 93 years, David Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. Now, for the first time he reflects upon both the defining moments of his lifetime as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen.
