un_rap Cornwall

We are very excited to announce that founder of un_rap Hannah, is embarking on a 300 mile zero-waste hike around the coast of Cornwall to raise money for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS).

She aims to raise at least £2 per mile she walks and all proceeds will be donated to the Cornwall based charity, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). They are an environmental charity that focus on improving and protecting the UK's coastlines. Working on the beaches, in schools, with community groups and fighting for new legislations with the government.

Walking 300 miles will be a huge physical and psychological challenge for Hannah. Walking 300 Zero Waste will be even harder. 3 years ago she walked 500 miles across Spain refusing all single-use plastics and from the experience came the idea for un_rap. The team are excited to see what comes out of this thru-hike...

The plan is to prepare the majority of food in advance, using our zero waste shop and local, fresh, unpackaged veg. Meals will be prepared at home pre-trek, dehydrated, then packaged in reusable containers, ready to reheat on the trail. This will eliminate as much waste as possible throughout the supply chain. Toiletries will also be eco friendly, e.g. bamboo toothbrush, cardboard deodorant stick, compostable plasters, etc. Any food or supplies that are picked up along the way will be unpackaged, or at the very least, in paper or tin that can be easily recycled or composted.

Hannah is hoping to highlight the amount of litter and pollution on our beaches, whilst showcasing solutions to the problem. un_rap is hoping to inspire other businesses to raise money for causes they are passionate about. All the while reminding us to slow down,  go for a walk and appreciate nature.

"I am combining my love of Cornwall and my passion to protect nature by walking the entire coast of Cornwall without producing any waste. My aim is to prove that our beaches can be enjoyed without the need for litter and single-use plastics." Hannah

The full journey will be documented on this blog. Including: How to travel zero waste. The realities of backpacking. The amazing individuals and businesses around Cornwall helping to fight waste.
